The film earned Rs 40.35 crore on Thursday, which surpasses the Rs. 27.25 crore that Bajrangi Bhaijaan collected on the first day by a big margin. After receiving moderate reviews, it seems that people are enjoying the film as the occupancy across India was at an all time high and trade suggests that this trend is set to continue this over the weekend.

As exhibitor and distributor, Akshaye Rathi revealed, “The film has opened phenomenally. The average all-India occupancy was more than 90 per cent and the film has broken all the records set this year.

It has collected more than Rs 40 crore.”

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh also tweeted, “#PremRatanDhanPayo has a MIND-BOGGLING start. Salman + Sooraj Barjatya + Diwali results in MAGICAL figures at the BO… #PremRatanDhanPayo collects Rs 40.35 cr on Day 1. Hindi version only… Tamil and Telugu biz being compiled… OUTSTANDING START!”

Yes, surely Diwali has helped PRDP, Salman and Rajshri ring in the moolah but if it will have the biggest weekend or not, it is still not sure. As Akshaye adds, “The film will do well. It is a film that will appeal to the masses and the single-screen theatres in Tier II and III cities.

It may earn around Rs 25 crore on Friday, Rs 20-24 crore on Saturday and again Rs 30 crore on Sunday. I guess it will be in the same range of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Happy New Year, even though it got lesser screens than the two films. The ticket prices were also lesser than what was charged during Bajrangi Bhaijaan and HNY.”
