The film released today and our reviewer Sreeju Sudhakaran is in the theatre seeing the movie. The first half just ended and this is what he has to say till now, “The film begins on the night prior to the tragic hijacking of the Pan Am flight. While Neerja is seen celebrating with her parents and society members at a function, at the same time, the terrorists are readying themselves for the hijack in Karachi. Without wasting much time, the film gets to the point when Neerja’s flight, while at a stopover in Karachi, gets hijacked.
Though Neerja’s family portions are slow, it’s here that the film gains momentum and suddenly you are totally hooked to the proceedings. Thankfully, apart from Sonam Kapoor and Shabana Azmi, the makers have chosen relative newcomers to play the other characters which add to the realism. You really feel that you are a part of the entire hijack drama and I tell you that feeling is claustrophobic! Though we need time to adjust to Sonam Kapoor’s voice, the actress is quite apt to play the role. The first half ends with Neerja deciding that she will take care of the passengers she is supposed to serve. I really hope that the second half lives up to the promise of the first half.”
